Two people can look over the same rocks and see different things.
One will see a lump of chert, the other a sea urchin.

I'm enjoying this book. Just need to find the time to get to the last page! It's a story about female friendship and fossil hunting set in 19th century England. Reminds me of the natural objects I used to collect as a child. Not fossils per se but things like feathers, stones, pinecones and driftwood. I've kept this lovely yellow shell for many years. How about you?
P.S I'm not big on heavy photo editing but today I had a play around with one of our Aperture library plugins. Applied this preset using HDR Efex Pro (Nik software) and quite like the result.

What a beautiful picture! Sounds like you are reading an interesting book...I need to switch off the tv and read more!
ReplyDeleteThanks Kelly!
DeleteI love the effect you used - it creates the perfect feel for such precious treasures. I love collecting the same kind of things myself - as a child and even now. I'm forever collecting feathers, bark from our eucalyptus tree, even empty snail shells.
ReplyDeleteThat book you're reading sounds lovely!

I love that the 'collector' is present right from childhood.
DeleteAnother collector here, but I don't think mine have ever looked this pretty--gorgeous shot!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Cat!
DeleteI think I may have to check out that book! :)
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I started dating in the summer. Our dates were hiking through the woods to go swimming in different streams and waterfalls. I would collect a little rock from each spot and paint the location on one side. I still have them tucked away in a box. Silly, I know. :)
Now I collect the feathers that my chickens shed. I can't resist picking them up when I see one in the grass, especially the rooster tail feathers.
I hope you all are doing well!!
I love this story, Amanda - talk about romantic!
DeleteI think that effect is just gorgeous, Paula. This photo is so beautifully composed.
ReplyDeleteThe book you're reading sounds really unusual! I think I would like it very much. x
Thanks Maxabella!
DeleteGorgeous photo... and I too will look into the book. My 7 year old daughter is the avid collector, being able to see things sharply, that quickly pass before my own eyes. But, I have a few treasures of my own...Just having a day to spend hunting for treasures sounds wonderful enough to me!!!

That's lovely, MJ!
DeleteOh really lovely Paula.I am just trialling Aperture at the moment with my new I mac :) Is it what you used?I did not realise there was presets available??Is Aperture what you use for your editing, what do you think?OH sorry for so many questions :)
ReplyDeletex
Yes, that's the one. Unfortunately the plugins aren't free. If you click the Photos tab, you can Add Adjustment Preset but it's very limited. I usually just do light editing in the Adjustments panel/tab - mainly exposure or brightness, sometimes others. Love Aperture library though. It interfaces beautifully with Flickr and you can make your own albums etc.
DeleteOh lovely photo! I used to collect leaves and press them between my books :)
ReplyDeleteYes, that's a favourite of mine too - remarkably well preserved years later :)
DeletePerception is everything!! Love this post, Paula :) Hope you are having an amazing weekend.
ReplyDeleteThank You, Diana!
DeleteThis book sounds so good. I've enjoyed some of her other books and that quote is tops.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Alexandria!
DeleteI love your little story to go with your beautiful picture. I used to collect shells when I was younger and I had so many pretty ones too but I don't have them now sadly. I know my little one would love them now, she is a collector. x
ReplyDeleteAh, what a pity. Perhaps your little girl will start her own shell collection ;)
